Danielle Evennou, winner of the 2010 Larry Neal Writers’ Award for poetry, and 2010 Young Artist Grantee unveils her inaugural chapbook Queen of Tuesday on Wednesday, July 14.
With cover art by local artist Lisa Marie Thalhammer, this collection of poems reflects Evennou’s breath of poetic styling from formalism to spoken word. Evennou will share her work among fellow DC poets Kim Roberts, Derrick Weston Brown and Kuroji Ntu. These individuals are among the many DC poets who have influenced Evennou’s writing.
Evennou is daring in her exploration of inventing and breaking forms to create a fresh menagerie of poems reminiscent of the classic O’Hara New York School. Pop culture and the visual arts are infused with contemporary New Jersey suburbia and spoken word audacity. Her world is a new poetic that is lyrical, rich, subversive and sassy. If it’s possible to conjure a DC School of Poetry, Evennou is in the epicenter!
