Let the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities keep you up-to-date on all things in the arts this weekend. Here’s what’s happening November 20-22:
- MGFest, the premiere motion graphics festival, makes its debut in Washington. Register for any of the following events to experience sounds and graphics like never before seen in DC:
- Friday: Loda brings the best electronic dance musicians in conversation with DC’s arts scene for one unforgettable night at Gallery (Silver Spring).
- Saturday & Sunday: A series of workshops open to anyone: engage in 4-D Cinema, digital painting, photoshop for motion design and much more!
- Sunday: Whether you like your motion graphics loud and flashy or effectively communicated, MGFest gives you a platter of screenings to choose from: come at 6:30 for the “Best of 2008”, at 9:00 for “DC’s Best”, or stay the whole time and catch the end of the silent auction.
- FestivalsDC grantee GALA Hispanic Theater kicks off “Fuego Flamenca V,” a three-week exploration of the sizzling art of flamenco, the passionate and time-honored traditional dance.
- Grantee Woolly Mammoth Theatre presents “Full Circle,” a progressive performance taking place in every nook of the theater. The tale follows an American socialite and young German protestor who set out to save a baby during the fall of the Berlin Wall. Enjoy this stimulating performance from a variety of perspectives until Nov. 29!
- “Black,” presented by the DC Arts Center, explores the larger implications and the meaning of color through the eyes of black visual artists. The opening reception is tonight from 7-9pm.
- The Gallery at Flashpoint presents “Pacguy,” the video game-referencing and utilizing art of Kenny George through Dec. 12.
