The Washington Post just launched a new initiative to promote contemporary art in DC:
Real Art D.C. consists of two parts:
- online open gallery
- online competition
The online gallery will feature local artists so others may discover and connect with DC’s newest talents. This gallery will be driven by the local arts community – the artists who submit work, along with the dealers and teachers who encourage artists to upload images.
Beginning in May and continuing through October, The Post’s art critics will pick ten artists from the pool of Real Art D.C. uploads. Each of the ten finalists will get a studio visit write-up online. When the last finalist is announced in October, users will have the opportunity to vote online for the finalist of choice. The Post will interview the winner, and profile his/her career in print and online.
