International Arts & Artists – Summer Events

International Arts & Artists – Summer events

  • On June 3rd, our First Friday opening had a huge turn out for artists Rebecca Clarke and Lynn Putney– written up in the Washington Post as “Opening of the Week” in the weekend section
  • With our DCCAH FY2011 City Arts Project grant, we’re making our permanent collection, the Hechinger Collection, more accessible to the DC community by installing portions of the collection in places like Sitar Arts Center, and the DC Superior courts– the opening at Sitar is coming up June 20th.
  • We have a new exhibition collaboration with L2 Lounge in Georgetown to further promote under-exposed DC artists
  • Our Old Time Revival jam sessions continues periodically featuring old-time revivalist music and renowned fiddler Alan Jabbour, accompanied by his virtuoso group of musicians
  • IA&A’s Hillyer Art Space is starting it’s new monthly concert series, Recorder, beginning June 23 showcasing contemporary musicians using basic tools and common instruments to create something completely new and uniquely their own.
  • And, Soap Box, another new program debuting on July 14 allows underexposed artists to perform in the gallery’s and host artist Q&A sessions, promoting open dialogue between performance artists and audience members
