Chukwuma Agubokwu, “Cuirass Cavus”
Wilmer Wilson IV, “Blank Shot”
Chajana denHarder, “Door”
Hillyer’s new performance art series, Soapbox, aims to increase exposure to this critical yet underrepresented art form in Washington, DC. Hillyer aims to serve as a platform, or “Soapbox,” for performance art in DC. Soapbox cultivates emerging talent and showcases the best that performance art has to offer.
Chukwuma Agubokwu’s concern is that of belonging. In his art he manipulates language, patterns, and reality to make marked observations about the awkward interactions between the individual and the group.
Wilmer Wilson IV believes that we are defined by the context in which we live. He pushes everyday objects and actions to absurd limits to make clearer the systems in which we exist.
Chajana DenHarder is interested in the place and moment where two things meet, connect, and separate. In her work she reimagines and blurs the boundary lines that supposedly separate one thing from another.
