The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) presents the following events in October 2011:
Saturday, October 1 – ARTSMASH FUNDRAISING PARTY – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop invites you to its annual fundraising party ArtSmash on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 7:00-10:00 pm at 545 7th Street, SE. ArtSmash will host an array of entertainment from dancers to cabaret singers including performances by a cappella group Not What You Think and the casts of “CHAWbaret” and “DHS Pinafore.” Attendees will have the chance to enjoy games sponsored by Labyrinth Games, dance lessons, drawing, art projects, food, friends, libations, and more! The event will also include a live auction with a unique set of art and other offerings. ArtSmash supports CHAW’s tuition assistance, outreach, and education programs. Saturday, October 8 – ART EXHIBITION – The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) proudly presents an all-media juried exhibit entitled “The Art of Craft.” The juror of the show is Steve Fleming, artist and instructor at The Art League in Alexandria, Virginia. Opening reception is Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 PM at CHAW, 545 7th St, SE. Admission is free. Runs until November 4, 2011. Saturday, October 8 – CAPITAL CITY PLAYERS OF DC – The Capital City Players of Washington, DC presents “Circle Mirror Transformation” opening Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street, SE. When four lost New Englanders who enroll in Marty’s six-week-long community-center drama class begin to experiment with harmless games, hearts are quietly torn apart, and tiny wars of epic proportions are waged and won. Continues until October 22, 2011 with additional shows Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 3:00 p.m. on October 22, 2011. Friday, October 14 – FREE TANGO PRACTICA – Join Jake and Danarae Stevens for a free tango practica on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 7:00-9:30 pm at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street, SE. Tango dancers of all levels have an opportunity to practice, collaborate, and learn in a collective space. Free and open to all age levels. Saturday, October 22 – KIDS EURO FESTIVAL – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) presents ARTdays, a series of free concerts and events for the whole family sponsored by Fitness Together – Capitol Hill. CHAW hosts “Off to Lapland” from Finland as part of the Kids Euro Festival on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street, SE. Puppet performer Juha from Finland takes the audience to Finnish Lapland. A mean troll lives inside a mountain. Yoik music and mountains and the adventure is ready. Saturday, October 22 – FREE DRUMMING CIRCLE – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) presents ARTdays, a series of free concerts and events for the whole family sponsored by Fitness Together – Capitol Hill. CHAW hosts a free community drumming circle on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street, SE. Grab your bongos, bells, and tambourines and shake the house with this community drumming circle. Explore improvisation, call and response, share rhythms and dance if you feel like it. Monday, October 31 – FALL ARTS CLASSES – The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) hosts a new fall session of adult and youth classes. Adult classes include Painting, Fitness, Dance, Photography, Ceramics, and more. Four-week drop-in passes are available for certain classes. Early childhood classes include Pre-Ballet/Ballet.
